What does it mean to be a "member"? And what is the name of the membership (member of what, exactly...the NV Northern Railway Association)? Are there some other features of "membership" besides early ticket purchase? If there isn't, then you should just call it a "cover fee" or a way to bring in extra money for yourselves.

Admin:

Prudence, thanks for asking. We are a non-profit historic foundation. The vast majority of financial support to keep this open to the public comes from memberships, donations, and grants. A large part of the labor necessary to fulfill our mission comes from volunteers.

Details about memberships are here

Since you are relatively close by, from Idaho, details about volunteering are here.

We are a 501c3 foundation. Donations are tax-deductible.

Do you ever get cancellations and how are those handled? Is there a wait list that can be joined?

Admin:

Cancelations: It only happens rarely. Since so many riders come from afar, there is no time for another party to make travel arrangements. We do not keep a waiting list since in the past it just added frustration to people who were hoping for a seat.

You might want to consider the Sunset, Stars, and Champaign evening train.

is there a waiting list I can be put on or a date when the 2023/24 train tickets go on sale?

Admin: Since the Star Train program is in conjunction with the National Park Service, we have to wait for their scheduling to be finalized. They often do this in late Fall for the following year. This year when they did it for 2022, it sold out in just a few weeks. You might want to consider our Sunset, Stars, and Champaign Train that still has availability for 2022.

When will the tickets for 2023 go on sale?

Admin: Irina, We do appreciate your interest and are sorry that the 2022 tickets sold out so quickly. Seems that everyone wants to get out on a road trip. We don't blame you a bit.

We are limited on this train because it is done in conjunction with the National Park Service. They will not be able to give us a commitment regarding their staffing levels until about August or September of next year. We plan on having a member's pre-sale in late Summer, followed by a general sale. We will be sending out an email to all of those who have asked about it this year.

when can we buy tickets for 2022 and how often does it run every day ?

how can i get alerts for when it goes pn sale for 2022 cant be sold out already can it?

Admin:

James, yes, unfortunately, it has already sold out 2022. We sent an email to all members in early August telling them about the on-sale. We still had several trains available when the General Public on-sale occurred on September 1st, but they all sold out by now.

You might want to consider our Sunset, Stars, and Champaign train. the 2022 dates for it will go on sale for members on September 15th and for non-members on October 1st. Seehttps://nnry.com/pages/EveningTrain.php.

When will the Star Train schedule and ticket sales go out for 2022?

Admin:

Many people have been asking about this. We run the Star Train in conjunction with the National Park Service. They do not have their schedule finalized; possibly as late as December or January. In the meantime, you may want to consider the Sunset, Champaign, and Stars train.

You can also sign up for our mailing list and be the first to know about the Star Train 2022 schedule.

When do tickets for 2021 go on sale

Admin:

Joan. thanks for asking about the Star Train for next year. We would love to run the train every night, but in reality, the schedule depends on the Great Basin National Park and their Dark Rangers - Night Sky program.

Great Basin will not have next year's schedule available until very late this year. We will be sending out an email to all of our members as soon as we finalize our schedule for next year.

Will you be adding another day to the night time star train?

Admin:

We sincerely thank everyone for their interest in the Star Train. We are receiving several comments like this every day. As much as we would like to add more Star Trains in 2020, that is not possible. Star Trains are run in conjunction with Great Basin National Park. The number of trains we can run is limited by the National Park resources, including their famous "Dark Ranger" astronomy-certified park rangers. They also have to run the Night Sky program in the park, so they can not provide us more evenings........Which brings us to the next suggestion:

We understand how frustrating that must be to have missed out on the Star Train for 2020. The best solution to the Star Trains being sold out is

  1. Come to Ely and use that as your base-camp. There is plenty of lodging in town
  2. Enjoy riding one of our other trains, either the regular excursion trains, or the special/theme trains
  3. Drive out to Great Basin to attend one of their other evening Star Programs. It is only an hour's drive. Ely is the closest city to Great Basin.
